Day 1: arrival in Leh, visit the town
As you arrive in Leh by flight and spend the day resting and acclimatizing to the high altitude. In the afternoon, you explore the town of Leh, visiting the bustling local market, the historic Leh Palace, the charming old town, and the stunning Shanti Stupa (great place for sunset).
Day 2: monasteries of the Indus Valley
This morning, you drive from Leh towards the west along the Indus Valley and visit some of the region’s most impressive monasteries, including Alchi, Likir, and Lamayuru. These ancient Buddhist sites are known for their beautiful frescoes, intricate woodwork, and stunning views of the surrounding landscape. You can also learn about the region’s rich cultural history by interacting with the monks.
Day 3: Nubra valley and camel ride at Hunder sand dunes
After breakfast, you go to the Nubra valley via the Khardung La Pass (the highest motorable road in the world). You will then visit the Hunder sand dunes, where you can enjoy a Bactrian camel safari and take in the stunning desert scenery.
Day 4: Pangong lake
Today, you drive from Nubra valley to Pangong lake via Shayok. Pangong lake is a high-altitude lake located on the border between India and Tibet. It is famous for its crystal-clear blue waters and breathtaking mountain views. In the afternoon, you will have time to take in the stunning scenery and enjoy a peaceful stroll along the lake.
Day 5: Tso Moriri lake
Start early as there is long drive from Pangong lake to Tso Moriri lake, passing through the stunning Tsaga La pass along the border with Tibet. Tso Moriri is a high-altitude lake nestled in the midst of the Himalayas, known for its pristine blue waters, abundant birdlife, and breathtaking mountain vistas. It is located at 4500m altitude.
Day 6: back to Leh via Tso Kar lake
Today, you will go back to Leh from Tso Moriri via a 6-hour drive. Along the way, you will stop at Tso Kar lake where you can see the abundant birdlife, including the magnificent black-necked crane. This is a great opportunity to appreciate the region’s natural beauty and biodiversity. Reach Leh in the afternoon and enjoy dinner in the restaurant of your choice.
Day 7: departure from Leh
This morning, you will head to Leh airport and fly back to Delhi, concluding your Ladakh adventure.
